Self Rimming
Self rimming sinks are mounted above the counter with a visible rim and can be used with all types of countertops.

Undermount
Undermount sinks are installed underneath the counter top. High end counters such as granite or stone use this design. Number of holes is not relevant since the faucet is not mounted directly to the sink.

Pedestal
Pedestal sinks are freestanding and sit on their own base. The main reason to get a pedestal sink is to save space and easy installation.

Vessell / Basin
Vessells and Basins sit on top of a vanity or countertop. Unlike most sinks, they go from the countertop up.

Console
Console sinks are similiar to pedestal sinks. They are wider than pedestal sinks and are open underneath exposing pipes.

Vanity Tops
Vanity tops have the sink built right into the counter top. They are made of man made materials like Corian.

Wall Mount
Wall mount sinks save even more room than pedestal sinks. They do not take up any floor space. They are more difficult to install than a pedestal sink.
